In 1790, located in Harrisburg as a hatter and furrier; in 1796, elected coroner of Dauphin county; in 1798, appointed justice of the peace by Governor Mifflin, and represented Dauphin county in the Pennsylvania Legislature, sitting at Lancaster, nine successive terms from 1803. In 1810, he was appointed by Governor Snyder one of the commissioners for the erection of the public buildings at Harrisburg. In 1818, appointed by Governor Findlay an associate judge for the county of Dauphin, filling the office honorably until his death.
Endowed with great wisdom and sagacity, and of unimpeachable integrity and honesty, he was called upon to fill many public and private trusts of honor and responsibility.

Spent boyhood in several towns in Iowa, Lacrosse, Wi (1940), San Antonio, Tx (1941) and Fort Leavenworth, Ks (1948), Heidelberg, Germany 1948-1951 as Army dependent, Arlington, Va 1951-1954, graduated Washington-Lee High School with honors (National, Literary and French Honor Societies). In 1994 became the class reunion committee database keeper.
Presidential appointment to USNA. Graduated US Naval Academy in June 1958, US Naval Postgraduate School July 1965 (MS in Operations Research), US Naval War College July 1976 with highest honors. Classified as a Proven Subspecialist in Operations Research and in Plans and Programs.
Qualified as a Navy fixed-wing and ASW helicopter pilot in December, 1959. Assigned to HS-5 at NAS Quonset Point, RI for two tours, to HSL-32 (LAMPS) at NAS Norfolk, VA as Xo and CO (1973-1975), and afloat staff CASWG-1 in USS Kearsarge (CVS-). Was a White House Fellows semi-finalist for 1971-72. Shore tours included CNO field activities in Washington DC area and faculty of Naval War College, Newport, RI (1976-1980). Was the Director for Naval Matters of Center for Naval Analyses (1980-1982). Served on staff of ASSTSECNAV(S&L) in Arlington, VA (1982-1986) as senior military analyst during the President Reagan and Navy Secretary Lehman force buildup.
Was in Bethesda Naval Hospital on January 14, 1982 when an Air Florida plane crashed into the Potomac River in a snow storm between the 14th Street bridge spans. Metro also had a wreck in a tunnel that night.
Retired 1 July 1986 as a Captain with the Legion of Merit [ASNS&L, 1982-86], Meritorious Service Medal [NWC, 1976-1980], Meritorious Unit Commendation [TF-140 APOLLO recovery force, 1968], Navy Unit Commendation {HSL-32, 1973-75] and various Service and campaign medals, including Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal [USS Lake Champlain CVS-39, 1962-63 Cuban Crisis], National Defense Service Medal [1954, 1969] and Vietnam Service Medal with bronze start [ASWG-1 1969].
After retirement worked with various companies in the Washington, DC area (Information Spectrum, Inc.; BDM International; STR Corporation; Trawick & Associates; The Professional Group; Mindbank Consulting Group; SAIC consultant; FOCUS Consultants) in several capacities; senior analyst, department head, program manager, quality management manager & facilitator, consultant, principal analyst, newsletter executive editor, and technical writer. Took a one-year contract August 1996 with Fairfax County Public Schools as a secondary school physics teacher (2/3 time, 4 classes, 2 schools). In 1999 joined the Center for Naval Analyses Corp in Alexandria, Va as a senior analyst on the adjunct research staff.
Separated from wife, Nancy, in March 1995. Estranged from children, Divorce granted in Circuit Court of Fairfax County, Va on 23 September, 1996.
