"Charles Edgar Howard was born in Polk County, Iowa, August 13, 1878, and passed away August 15, 1964 at the age of 86 years and 2 days.

His parents were George F. and Mary Howard. He was a retired farmer having lived in the McDonald area since childhood. In his early life he taught school in Rawlins County and served as County Commissioneer for over 30 years. He was married April 20, 1902 to Ida Beeson and they celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary last April.

Survivors include his wife Ida; three sons, John and Charlie of McDonald, and Glenn of Goodland; three daughters, Mrs. Paul (Verne) Climer of Bolivar Mo., Mrs. Jack (Vivian) Opell of Washington, Ind., and Mrs. W. G. (Vida) Gillespie of Alliance, Neb. He also leaves 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Other survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Emma Henry of Glenwood Springs, Colo., and Mrs. Lou Hazzard of Gypsum, Colo.

Services were held on August 18 from the Federated Church with Rev. Clarence Swihart officiating. Interment was in Grace Cemetery, McDonald."--27 Aug 1964, The (Atwood KS) Citizen Patriot
